Every day at Engage we strive to be REAL. We focus on our principles of Resilience, Excellence, Authenticity and Love in all we do. Springtime is a time of year that reminds me of the power of the principle of RESILIENCE. Spring is one of my favorite times of year because as an avid gardener the daffodils, tulips, hyacinths, crocuses and other beautiful spring bulbs start to bloom. Every spring, my heart starts to beat faster and my spirit starts to soar as I anticipate the beauty that is about to unfold before our eyes. The RESILIENCE of the spring flowers never ceases to amaze me, especially the daffodils. Daffodils are the early bloomers. Their blooms signal the end of the struggle of winter and inspire us to the potential of spring. They are flowers of hope, joy and happiness. I love these hardy flowers and I celebrate their Resilience as they bloom year after year and in their Resilience remind us to never give up. Because the beauty of spring is always in our future, no matter how difficult the winter.
When I see the daffodils start to bloom, I am reminded of a story of a daughter taking her mother to see a daffodil treasure.
After a two-hour drive down a small gravel road they arrived at a small nondescript church in the middle of nowhere. Beside the church was a sign that said daffodil garden. After a short walk they turned a corner of the pathway they were on and before them lay the glorious sight of a mountainside of gold. The daffodils were planted in majestic swaths of deep orange, white, lemon yellow, salmon pink, saffron and butter yellow.
It was as though the hand of God had taken a paint brush and painted the majestic hillsides and slopes with a vat of gold.
"But who has done this?" exclaimed the mother to her daughter. "It's just one woman" explained the daughter. "She lives on the property and that is her home."
On the front patio of the home was a poster, "Answers to the Questions I know you are Asking."
The first answer was "50,000 bulbs."
The second was "One at a time, by one woman. Two hands, two feet and very little brain."
The third answer was "Began in 1958."
There it was, the Daffodil Principle.
The lesson is simple and yet powerful. The principle of Resilience is simply moving towards our goals and desires one step at a time. What step is the most important? The Next One! As we all move forward towards our personal goals and our collective mission to bring health and wellness to the world, I hope you remember the Daffodil Principle. Any destination is possible for all of us, if we simply take the next step today, tomorrow and always.
I love all of you and I thank you for all you do to help us bring health and wellness to the world.
Spring is here. Onward.
